Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria announced plans to formulate a comprehensive land pooling policy, aiming to address stalled development and unauthorized construction in rural and peripheral areas. The policy is seen as essential for uniform urban planning and development, particularly for the over 2,000 acres of vacant land across 22 villages. Officials are studying models from other states, noting that a Change of Land Use (CLU) policy is a prerequisite for land pooling. This initiative aims to streamline development and prevent illegal construction outside 'lal dora' areas, a long-standing demand of rural residents.
