Madras High Court Directs India Post to Address Delivery of Items to Deceased Persons

The Madras High Court has directed the Union Ministry of Communications and the Director General of Postal Services to resolve confusion arising from conflicting provisions in the Post Office Regulations, 2024, regarding delivery of items addressed to deceased persons. Until a solution is found, the court ordered that postal items addressed to the dead be handed over to their legal heirs if present at the deceased's residence. This follows a writ petition by Mohana Ramaswami, whose husband's mail was returned to senders instead of being delivered to her.
