India is preparing to translocate five African cheetahs from Botswana under Project Cheetah, with permissions anticipated between January and February. Authorities are finalizing logistics, including aircraft arrangements and export permits under CITES. The final release location, either Kuno National Park or Gandhi Sagar sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh, is yet to be determined. Botswana had previously announced the donation of eight cheetahs to India during President Droupadi Murmu's state visit.
