Kochi Corporation Approves Free Ferry Rides for Women and Reviews Ro-Ro Service Management
The Kochi Corporation council approved free rides for women passengers, excluding motorists, on its ro-ro ferries, following a similar scheme by the UDF government for KSRTC buses. While ruling UDF members supported the welfare measure, opposition councillors expressed concerns about financial losses and called for careful study. Concurrently, the Corporation is reviewing ro-ro service management, considering replacing Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation Ltd. with Kochi Metro Rail Limited or a special purpose vehicle to improve accountability and operations amid financial challenges.
