The World Economic Forum (WEF) has barred Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi from attending the 2026 Davos summit, reversing an earlier invitation amid widespread criticism. The decision follows a deadly crackdown on protesters in Iran, with human rights groups reporting thousands of civilian deaths during recent demonstrations. Activists and advocacy groups urged the WEF to exclude Iranian officials, citing alleged human rights abuses. The WEF stated that given the tragic loss of civilian lives, it was not appropriate for Iran to be represented at this year's forum.
