Maharashtra's Language Advisory Committee, led by Laxmikant Deshmukh, has requested a meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to oppose making a third language compulsory from Class 1. The committee argues this policy could burden students and affect Marathi's status, citing academic concerns and the National Education Policy 2020, which supports mother tongue education. This follows the submission of a report by a separate panel headed by Narendra Jadhav, with the government expected to decide soon.
