Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that the MGNREGA scheme, introduced by the previous UPA government, was ineffective and prone to corruption. He alleged that funds were misused, work was often done by machines or contractors, and estimates were inflated. Chouhan also criticized the opposition for disrupting parliamentary debate on the scheme's renaming and replacement with the 'Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin)' (VB-GRAM).
