Uttar Pradesh's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists has concluded, with approximately 2.89 crore names removed. The Election Commission stated these deletions are due to reasons like permanent relocation, deaths, duplicate entries, and unsubmitted forms. Lucknow and Ghaziabad saw the highest number of removals. The Samajwadi Party alleges that 85-90% of deleted voters supported the BJP, predicting a significant electoral setback for the ruling party. The BJP and state officials reject these claims, attributing deletions to electoral roll cleaning and stating voter manipulation is no longer possible. The draft voter list is set for release on December 31.
