Congress MP Highlights Challenges in Corneal Blindness and Hearing Treatment in India

Congress MP Mukul Balkrishna Wasnik highlighted challenges in treating corneal blindness and hearing impairments in India. He noted that while 25,000 to 30,000 eye donations occur annually, only 60-70% are suitable for transplantation, and about 2 lakh donations are needed yearly to address the backlog and new cases. Wasnik cited hurdles like lack of awareness and socio-cultural myths. He also emphasized the gap in government support for cochlear implants and advanced hearing aids for children, urging increased priority and universal coverage.
