Bombay High Court Rejects Maharashtra Government's Claim Over 193 Acres in Thane

The Bombay High Court dismissed the Maharashtra government's claim over nearly 193 acres of land in Thane's Manpada-Chitalsar area, ruling that the acquisition as private forest in 1975 was invalid due to procedural errors. The court upheld the rights of the original owner, D Dahyabhai Co. Pvt. Ltd., and directed the Thane Municipal Corporation to issue Transferable Development Rights (TDR) as compensation within 21 days. The TMC currently possesses part of the land, which it uses for public infrastructure and plans to maintain green cover.
