
The Supreme Court of India plans to implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) software to manage case listing and bench allocation, reducing human involvement in these administrative tasks. This reform, initiated by Chief Justice Surya Kant, follows an internal review that identified long-term incumbency among officials and outdated technology causing administrative lapses. Recent interdepartmental transfers aim to address these issues. The changes were prompted by a procedural lapse noticed during a petition hearing involving the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
