The Andhra Pradesh Assembly held discussions on the alleged adulteration of ghee used in Tirupati laddu preparation between 2019 and 2024 during the YSRCP tenure. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan cited a CBI-led investigation revealing that nearly 59.71 lakh kg of adulterated ghee, possibly made with palm oil and chemicals, was used to prepare over 20 crore laddus. Naidu described the issue as an organised conspiracy involving officials and syndicates, with tender norms allegedly diluted to favour certain suppliers. The government is considering stricter regulations and special legislation to protect temple sanctity.
