The Congress party has announced it will contest the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) elections independently due to unresolved seat-sharing disagreements with its Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP). The Congress sought at least 35 seats, but felt their proposal was not accepted and that allies preferred the MNS. While Congress declared its solo run, NCP (SP) leader Jitendra Awhad stated that no final decision has been made and expressed hope to resolve the confusion and maintain alliance unity against the BJP.
