Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis warned citizens against 'digital arrest' scams, clarifying that such arrests have no legal basis. Fraudsters impersonate officials via video calls, creating fake virtual jail scenarios to intimidate victims into transferring money. Fadnavis urged immediate reporting to the 1930 cybercrime helpline within the 'golden hour' to increase chances of recovering funds. Despite advanced cybersecurity measures and awareness campaigns, even experienced individuals have fallen victim. Maharashtra recorded 145 major cyber fraud cases totaling over Rs 129 crore recently.
