Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, speaking at the Chanakya National Law University convocation in Patna, emphasized the importance of empathy in the legal system, stating it distinguishes a just society from an unjust one. He urged young lawyers to "bend the arc of justice" towards communities most in need, reminding them that law is for everyone, not just those who can afford it. The CJI also advised against letting career intensity erase finer sensibilities and highlighted that law draws legitimacy from the people it protects.
