Congress Leader Urges Gujarat to Implement Central Crop Insurance Scheme PMFBY
Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil has urged the Gujarat government to implement the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), highlighting that the state has not participated in the scheme since 2019-20. He cited a Union agriculture minister's letter urging Gujarat to adopt the scheme, which benefits farmers during natural calamities. The Gujarat government stated it provides direct relief packages to farmers instead of the insurance scheme, including a recent ₹10,000 crore package for groundnut farmers. Gohil criticized the state for inadequate compensation compared to the scheme's benefits.
