Local authorities and the district magistrate defended the project, stating artefacts are secured and will be reinstated, with the redevelopment aiming to improve sanitation and space management at the cremation site. Descendants of Ahilyabai Holkar and local groups have demanded restoration and inquiry into the demolition.
