Four Detained After Protest Over Zuari River Dam in Goa Assembly

On March 6, four protesters were detained in the Goa Assembly after staging a demonstration from the visitors' gallery during the budget session, opposing the proposed Zuari River dam at Mirabag village. Villagers have been protesting for 25 days, fearing inundation of 500 houses. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant condemned the disruption as a "terrorist kind of attitude" and called for arrests. Opposition MLA Vijai Sardesai stated the protest occurred due to the government's refusal to hear the villagers. Assembly marshals detained the protesters amid calls for strict action.
