Eight of the 16 Indian sailors detained by Iranian authorities since December 2025 after their vessel, MT Valiant Roar, was seized near UAE waters have been released, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The crew faced allegations of fuel smuggling, which the ship's operator denied. India has secured consular access and is coordinating with Iran for the release and support of the remaining eight sailors. Repatriation formalities for the released crew are underway.
