The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has urged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to extend the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system across all Northeastern states. HITO cited security, demographic, and sovereignty concerns, particularly in response to remarks by Bangladesh's interim head Muhammad Yunus regarding Bangladesh's role in the Northeast. HITO views Yunus's comments as detrimental to India's national interest and believes extending the ILP would safeguard indigenous identity and control illegal migration.
