Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has been appointed President of the India-Philippines Parliamentary Friendship Group for the 18th Lok Sabha by Speaker Om Birla. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the appointment, suggesting Gogoi should have been assigned to the India-Pakistan group, amid Sarma's allegations of Gogoi's links to Pakistan through his wife. Gogoi denies these claims, noting the Special Investigation Team found no evidence, and questioned the delay in releasing the SIT report. The Assam government plans to refer the SIT findings to the central government for further action.
