
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma presented the Rs 32,023-crore budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, projecting a fiscal deficit of around 3.5% of the Gross State Domestic Product. The budget includes revenue receipts of Rs 26,583 crore and capital receipts of Rs 5,417 crore, with no new taxes proposed. Capital expenditure has crossed Rs 10,000 crore for the first time, marking a significant increase from previous years. The budget also features thematic allocations for climate, youth, and gender, alongside initiatives like a 1,000-day mission to address child malnutrition. Fiscal prudence is emphasized while sustaining development spending under the Vision 2032 roadmap.
