Assam Villagers Protest Niuland District Gate Near Assam-Nagaland Border

Residents of Chungajan in Assam's Golaghat district are protesting against a gate installed near the Assam-Nagaland border, which bears the name of Nagaland's Niuland district. Locals claim the gate represents an attempt to assert territorial control within Assam. Despite submitting a memorandum to the Assam government in February, no action has been taken. Protesters have threatened a 12-hour road blockade on March 7 and have staged demonstrations including burning tyres and raising slogans against the gate.
