The United States imposed cyber-related sanctions on four individuals and three entities linked to Russia and the United Arab Emirates for acquiring and distributing cyber tools deemed harmful to U.S. national security. The Treasury Department cited involvement in theft of trade secrets, including a case where a former U.S. government contractor executive pleaded guilty to selling sensitive cyber-exploit components to a Russian cyber-tools broker. The sanctions also relate to violations under the Protecting American Intellectual Property Act.
