Ahead of the 2027 Punjab assembly elections, the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) has reduced electricity tariffs across domestic, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors for the 2026-27 fiscal year, effective April 1. Domestic consumers will see a reduction of up to Rs 1.50 per unit after 300 free units, while commercial and industrial rates have also been lowered. The move, costing Rs 7,851.91 crore in relief, aims to ease the state's subsidy burden and maintain the financial viability of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL). Electric vehicle charging tariffs have been set at Rs 5 per unit, the lowest in the country.
