Hundreds of sanitation workers protesting for job permanency were detained by Greater Chennai City Police on Saturday as they marched towards the Secretariat. The workers, previously under the National Urban Livelihood Mission, were held in various halls and released later that evening. The protest, led by Uzhaippor Urimai Iyakkam, seeks discussions with the Chief Minister to address concerns over privatization of conservancy work.
