Meghalaya will host approximately 85% of the land for the Barapani-Silchar expressway, with Assam contributing the remaining 15%. Land acquisition is underway in Assam and will proceed under Hill Council regulations in Meghalaya. The 166.80 km, four-lane highway, costing an estimated Rs 22,864 crore, aims to significantly reduce travel time and improve connectivity between the two states and the Northeast region. Tenders are expected before February 28, with construction anticipated within 48 months.
