
Indian Railways is launching its first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express on January 17, connecting Howrah (Kolkata) to Kamakhya (Guwahati) over 958 km. The 16-coach train offers 1AC, 2AC, and 3AC classes with fares ranging from Rs 960 to Rs 3,640 depending on distance and class, plus 5% GST. The service features confirmed ticketing only, with no RAC or waitlist, and aims to reduce travel time by about three hours. Officials emphasize improved comfort, safety technologies, and hygiene, while urging passengers to maintain cleanliness. The launch is expected to enhance connectivity and accessibility in eastern and northeastern India, particularly benefiting North Bengal and Assam.
