Nepal's model code of conduct for the parliamentary elections, scheduled for March 5, came into effect on January 18-19 to ensure a free, fair, and impartial voting process. The elections follow the resignation of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli amid widespread protests and political unrest. Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki assumed office in September with a mandate to hold timely elections. The code applies broadly to government bodies, political parties, candidates, media, and other stakeholders. The Election Commission oversees the process amid intra-party disputes and participation from numerous political parties.
