In Indore, a contaminated water crisis has led to a significant number of illnesses and deaths in the Bhagirathpura area. While authorities officially confirm three deaths from diarrhoea, local residents claim the toll is much higher, with figures ranging from five to eight fatalities. Over 100 people have been hospitalised with symptoms like vomiting and dehydration. Investigations suggest a leakage in the main water pipeline, possibly mixing sewage with drinking water, is the cause. In response, officials have suspended and dismissed several municipal employees, and the Chief Minister has announced compensation for victims and free medical treatment.
