The Maharashtra government has renewed focus on its Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan 2.0 in the 2026-27 budget to address predicted drought conditions. Originally launched in 2015 under Chief Minister Fadnavis, the scheme targets water management in drought-prone villages, promoting water conservation, crop diversification, and regulated groundwater use. The program was paused between 2019 and 2022 by the MahaVikas Aghadi government due to concerns over its effectiveness, but has now been reinstated with stricter measures to enhance water self-reliance in vulnerable districts.
