Sri Lanka Introduces Four-Day Workweek to Conserve Fuel Amid West Asia Conflict

Sri Lanka has announced a four-day workweek for government institutions, declaring every Wednesday a public holiday starting March 18, to conserve fuel amid concerns over supply disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The measure applies to schools, universities, and courts but exempts essential services such as healthcare, ports, water supply, and customs. The government has urged the private sector to adopt similar steps. This follows fuel rationing and price hikes as the country prepares for potential shortages due to tensions affecting the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil shipping route.
