NIA Arrests TMC Councillor in 2023 Ram Navami Violence; CBI Detains Fugitive in 2021 Post-Poll Case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Shakir Ali, a Trinamool Congress councillor from Rishra and husband of former MP Aparupa Poddar, in connection with the 2023 Ram Navami violence in Hooghly district, West Bengal. The arrest followed raids and investigations involving forensic and digital evidence suggesting a planned conspiracy. Separately, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended Khalid-Uz-Zaman, a fugitive wanted for a 2021 post-poll violence case in West Bengal, from Maharashtra. Both agencies continue their probes into these incidents.
