The Delhi government and IIT Madras have signed a six-month MoU to study photocatalytic "smog-eating" surfaces using Titanium Dioxide or similar materials to reduce air pollution. The study aims to assess the effectiveness of coatings and panels applied to roads, buildings, and infrastructure in breaking down pollutants like nitrogen dioxide and volatile organic compounds. Led by IIT Madras, the research will begin with lab tests followed by field trials, seeking affordable, long-lasting pollution control solutions without restricting urban growth.
