Tigers have been confirmed to be present in Gujarat's Ratanmahal forests, marking the return of the species to the state after decades. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has preliminarily confirmed the tiger's presence and included Gujarat in the national tiger population count. This follows camera trap evidence and the observation of large pugmarks, indicating a suitable ecosystem for tigers. Gujarat was previously excluded from national tiger censuses after 1992.
