
The Supreme Court will hear next week a suo motu case concerning victims of digital arrest scams, where fraudsters impersonate law enforcement or government officials to extort money via audio and video calls. Previously, the court described such frauds siphoning over Rs 54,000 crore as robbery and directed the Centre to draft a standard operating procedure with stakeholders like the RBI and banks. The court also urged proactive bank roles, authorized CBI investigations, and sought frameworks for victim compensation.
