The Union Home Ministry has approved extending the deputation tenure for central armed police forces and Assam Rifles personnel joining the National Security Guard (NSG) from the previous five years, extendable twice by one year, to a fixed seven-year period. This change aims to preserve institutional memory and specialized skills within the NSG, a federal counter-terrorist force known as the 'Black Cats.' The decision addresses administrative delays and aligns the tenure with other specialized agencies, without allowing further extensions beyond seven years.
