The Madras High Court has urged the Greater Chennai Corporation to significantly reduce the number of shops on Marina Beach, suggesting a limit to only food, toys, and souvenirs. The court expressed shock at the current count, which drone surveys indicated could be up to 1,980, though the Corporation stated 1,417. The court also proposed creating additional 'blue flag' areas, including one on a 35-acre plot where cattle graze, to enhance the beach's public space. The Corporation has been given until January 8 to submit a revised plan.
