The Bihar Cabinet approved a draft agreement with Jharkhand to share the Son River's water, resolving a 25-year dispute. Under the 1973 Bansagar Agreement, undivided Bihar was allocated 7.75 million acre-feet (MAF) of water; the new arrangement allocates 5.75 MAF to Bihar and 2 MAF to Jharkhand. This agreement, finalized after discussions at the Eastern Zonal Council in July 2025, clears the way for the Indrapuri Reservoir Project, which will enhance irrigation across eight districts in Bihar.
