The UN Security Council will convene an emergency meeting following Israel's recognition of Somaliland's independence, a move declared in the spirit of the Abraham Accords for cooperation in economic and development fields. This decision, making Israel the sole UN member to recognize Somaliland's 1991 declaration of independence, has sparked condemnation from Somalia, regional powers like Egypt and Turkey, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, who view it as a violation of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The European Union also reaffirmed its commitment to Somalia's unity.
