Congress MLA Sajid Khan Pathan from Akola West received an international death threat and a Rs 10 crore extortion demand on February 17, allegedly from Shubham Lonkar, associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The caller warned that police protection would be temporary and threatened to kill Pathan if demands were unmet, referencing the 2024 murder of NCP MLA Baba Siddique. Maharashtra Assembly leaders have urged the government to provide immediate security to Pathan amid concerns over public representatives' safety.
