Calcutta High Court to Hear PILs Seeking Central Forces Deployment in Beldanga Violence

Two Public Interest Litigations (PILs) have been filed in the Calcutta High Court seeking deployment of Central forces in Beldanga, Murshidabad district, following recent violence linked to alleged attacks on migrant workers in neighboring states. The unrest began after protests over the death of a migrant worker and included road and rail blockades, assaults on journalists, and property damage. Police arrested 30 people for inciting violence. The court is expected to hear the PILs, which also request an NIA probe, on Tuesday. A similar deployment was ordered in April 2025 after communal violence in the district.
