
The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to entertain a public interest litigation seeking the removal of portraits of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar from Parliament and public spaces. A bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, cautioned the petitioner, retired IRS officer B Balamurugan, against filing what it deemed a 'frivolous' petition. The court expressed displeasure over the petitioner's inability to argue in person due to financial constraints and warned of exemplary costs before allowing the plea to be withdrawn.
