Sunetra Pawar Unanimously Elected Nationalist Congress Party President After Ajit Pawar's Death

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar was unanimously elected as the Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) national president on February 26, succeeding her late husband Ajit Pawar, who died in a plane crash on January 28. The decision was made at the party's national executive meeting, with senior leader Praful Patel formally proposing her name and receiving full support from delegates. Sunetra Pawar, the first woman to hold this position, also serves as Maharashtra's deputy chief minister and is contesting the Baramati Assembly by-election.
