Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has proposed a 'multi-door courthouse' concept, envisioning courts as comprehensive dispute resolution centers rather than just trial venues. Speaking at a mediation conference in Goa, he emphasized mediation as the 'highest evolution' of law, a voluntary, cost-effective, and win-win process rooted in India's traditions. He highlighted the need for more trained mediators to reduce judicial pendency and stressed that while mediation and arbitration are encouraged, litigation remains an option for unresolved cases.
