The Delhi government has clarified that school teachers will not be assigned the task of counting stray dogs, refuting reports of such duties. While the Directorate of Education (DoE) directed educational institutions to appoint nodal officers for stray dog-related matters in compliance with a Supreme Court order, these officers are not teachers performing census duties. Teachers' associations had raised concerns that such non-academic tasks could impact teaching work and the dignity of the profession. The DoE stated that the focus is on safety measures like strengthening premises and awareness programs, with nodal officers acting as points of contact.
