On March 9, the Lok Sabha will consider a resolution seeking the removal of Speaker Om Birla, who will not chair the proceedings but will sit among members and has the right to defend himself and vote against the motion by submitting a slip. The resolution, moved by at least 118 opposition MPs including Congress, Samajwadi Party, and DMK, alleges Birla acted in a partisan manner by restricting opposition speeches and suspending MPs. TMC MPs did not sign the notice. Constitutional expert P D T Achary noted that Birla’s seating arrangement during the vote is not specified in the rules.
