Brazil's Supreme Court unanimously convicted former Congressman Chiquinho Brazao, his brother Domingos Brazao, and three others for orchestrating the 2018 assassination of councilwoman and human-rights activist Marielle Franco and her driver Anderson Gomes. The court found the Brazao brothers ordered the killing to protect their illegal land-grabbing scheme in Rio de Janeiro. The ruling concludes an eight-year legal process, with the gunmen already serving sentences and other accomplices convicted for related crimes. All accused denied involvement during the trial.
