
Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the expansion of a buffer zone inside northeastern Ukraine, with Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov stating forces are advancing. The expansion is planned for 2026 in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions, near the Russian border. Gerasimov made these remarks while inspecting the "North" troop grouping, as reported by Russian state news agency RIA.
