Tamil Nadu's Agriculture Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam announced an action plan for the samba paddy procurement season, including 4,076 direct purchase centers to minimize farmer waiting times. Efforts are underway to ensure sufficient jute bags and threads, with instructions for additional recruitment of seasonal workers if needed. The state has already procured 14.83 lakh tonnes of paddy this season, fulfilling a 2021 election promise to purchase paddy at ₹2,500 per quintal by adding an incentive to the MSP.
